This is Chapter 3 of the Suno AI Comprehensive Guide. Lyrics directly affect how well AI sings.

Keywords: suno tutorial, suno prompts, suno usage, AI music lyrics

3.1 Syllables & Rhythm

AI is sensitive to syllable count. Too many syllables per line = rushed or skipped lyrics.

Recommendations:

  • Chinese: 10-15 characters per line
  • English: 8-12 words per line
  • Chorus: shorter sentences, more powerful

Bad:

I'm standing on the highest rooftop in this city looking at the gradually darkening sky thinking of you

Better:

I stand on the rooftop
Watch the darkening sky
Thinking of you

3.2 Rhyme

AI responds well to rhyming. It makes the output more natural.

Tips:

  • Don’t need every line to rhyme, but try rhyming in chorus
  • Put rhymes at line ends
  • Near-rhymes work too

Example:

[Chorus]
I'm waiting for the wind
For the clouds to clear
For a future that won't change

3.3 What to Avoid

  • Rare/complex characters: AI may misread. Use simpler words or pinyin: 重(chong)逢
  • Overly long sentences: Split into shorter phrases
  • Excessive repetition: “ahhhhhh” — AI can’t handle it well. Use [Vocal Ad-libs] instead
  • Random language mixing: Unless intentional, it causes pronunciation issues. Specify in Style: Mandarin with English phrases

3.4 Leave White Space

Don’t fill every line. Leave room for AI to add instrumental breaks:

[Verse]
Moonlight on the windowsill

Your photo remains

[Chorus]
I'm still waiting

Empty lines between sections = natural instrumental transition.

3.5 Filler Words & Interjections

Filler words add emotion and induce more natural singing — use moderately.

Common English:

  • Oh / Ooh / Ah — emotion release
  • Yeah — affirmation, rock feel
  • Whoa — surprise
  • La la la / Na na na — light humming
  • Mmm — thoughtful

Usage tips:

  • 啊—— better than 啊啊啊啊啊 for sustained notes
  • (啊) in parentheses = background vocals
  • Avoid 哈 / 呵 / 哼 — easily sung as harsh plosives

3.6 Singability

In AI music, whether lyrics can be sung smoothly matters more than literary beauty.

Checklist:

  • Chorus ends with open vowels (ah, oh, ei, ou) for easy sustain
  • Avoid consecutive retroflex or plosive sounds
  • Chinese: 10-15 characters per line max
  • Chorus keywords: short words + repetition > complex imagery

Bad:

I'm in the corner of this city repeatedly thinking about our relationship that has already ended
Clinging, chasing, constantly struggling

Better:

I stand in the city corner
Remember how we reached the end

Still chasing
Still struggling

Self-test: Read your lyrics aloud. Wherever you stumble, there’s a problem.
